We now know the approximate cost of satisfying President Donald Trump’s enormous ego for a single day.
It’s $92 million.
That’s the new estimated cost for the grand parade of troops and equipment that Trump ordered after having watched a parade in France.
The initial estimate was $12 million. Outrageous enough. But after figuring out what the president wants and all that is involved in moving and taking care of the military personnel and equipment and security and so on the price rose 666 percent.
A ‘devilish’ increase
If that number ever seemed to tell a devilish tale, this is it.
Now in order to satisfy the narcissistic excesses of a man who took five deferments to avoid military service during the Vietnam War it will cost taxpayers $92 million.
It’s a ridiculous waste of money in and of itself, with no need for how many better purposes the funds could be put.
But let us just ponder one small fact. In the United States it is estimated that there are roughly 500,000 homeless men, women and children. That’s bad enough.
What it could do for vets in need
It it also estimated, however, that 40,000 of those homeless individuals are military veterans.
Imagine how much food or shelter or other assistance that $92 million could provide for so many of those 40,000 homeless vets.
Instead, after the extravagant procession has passed by the president I’d guess that more than a few of those vets will slink along the parade route looking for discarded food or empty drink cans and then, later that evening, try to find a safe, quiet spot on the street to sleep.
