Jacquelyn Austin Nominated by President Biden to the United States District Court for the District of South Carolina

COLUMBIA, S.C. — President Joe Biden has nominated the Honorable Jacquelyn D. Austin to the United States District Court for the District of South Carolina. Austin would be filling the seat vacated by the Honorable Michelle Childs when she was confirmed to the US Court of Appeals, District of Columbia in 2022.

Judge Austin is a native of Sumter, SC, and a 1996 graduate of the University of South Carolina School of Law. Her work history includes:

  • 1996-1997 serving as a law clerk for Judge Matthew Perry of the US District Court for the District of South Carolina
  • 1997-1999 as an associate at Hardaway Law Firm
  • 1999-2006 as an associate at Womble Carlyle Sandridge and Rice, PLLC (now Womble Bond Dickinson), and as a partner in 2006. 
  • In 2011, Austin was appointed to her first eight-year term as a US magistrate judge for the District of South Carolina and was reappointed in 2019.

Biden’s nomination of Austin, along with four nominations for judgeships in the state of Florida, goes to the US Senate for approval.
