The two Chelsea legends will be in opposite dugouts at Old Trafford on Tuesday as Lampard and his promotion hopefuls take on his former manager’s inconsistent side. Lampard enjoyed the most successful spell of his playing career under Mourinho’s management and revealed his former mentor had been in touch last week.
Derby are currently in sixth place in the Championship, two points adrift of leaders Leeds, and Mourinho is confident the former England star has assembled a squad capable of reaching the Premier League.

‘But I think when Frank (Lampard) goes there he goes with the intention of being promoted. He has experienced players, he has good players coming from good academies like Chelsea and Liverpool. ‘They are playing well, they are in the fight for promotion and we all know that a fight in that competition will be for promotion, for play-offs, and will last until the end.’
