A Rhode Island man was run over and dragged by a vehicle driven by a Lynn man on Tuesday night, according to police.
Ronald Allen, 24, of Lynn, was arrested and charged with assault with intent to murder, reckless operation of a motor vehicle, operating with a suspended license, and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, to wit, a motor vehicle, police said.
Police said officers responded at approximately 10:01 p.m. to 127 Winnepurkit Ave. for a report of a pedestrian accident. Witnesses at the scene told police that Allen was driving a black Honda Civic on Winnepurkit Avenue at a high rate of speed and the 23-year-old man from Pawtucket, R.I., had initially chased the vehicle.
Witnesses said the man was standing in the street when he was run over and “dragged a short distance down the street,” police said.
The victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital, police said.
Allen was arrested at his residence shortly after the incident, according to police.
Lynn Police Lieutenant Michael Kmiec said it didn’t appear to be a typical road rage incident, because the two men knew each other.
“It appears there was an ongoing dispute between some individuals in the neighborhood,” he said in an e-mailed statement.
Allen was arraigned in Lynn District Court on Wednesday and he was held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing on April 4, according to the court clerk’s office.
