More than half (51 percent) of Americans are turning to artificial intelligence-powered voice assistants, like Apple’s Siri or Amazon’s Alexa, to answer their questions on diseases and treatments, according to results of a DRG Digital and Manhattan Research survey.
For the Cybercitizen Health U.S. 2017 study, researchers probed 6,001 American adults on their digital healthcare behaviors.
Here are four things to know.
1. One in four smartphone owners use the voice search feature to access information on their phones.
2. Forty-five percent of respondents who expressed interest in voice AI for health management feel the technologies will change how they manage their health.
3. Certain groups are even more interested in applying voice AI to healthcare, with 69 percent of Crohn’s disease patients and 61 percent of patients with depression expressing interest.
4. Chatbots could serve as a potential resource for health information, as 32 percent of respondents said they prefer automated chat features to help navigate websites as opposed to searching through them on their own.
