Pennsylvania is the fifth most populous state, notching a slight increase in residents with the latest data after losing population in previous years.
Newly released U.S. Census data reports that the state saw growth of about 18,000 people since 2016, totaling 12.8 million. That is growth of about 100,000 since 2010.
The state with the largest growth was Idaho, which increased 2.2 percent to 1.7 million people.
California ranks as the largest state with 39.5 million people, while Texas, Florida and New York all have bigger populations than Pennsylvania at No. 5. Pennsylvania moved up one notch from a year ago, passing Illinois, who is now No. 6.
