The Rhode Island Republican Party is preparing to elect new leadership as it faces a fractious time in the current political landscape.
Currently, candidates for party chair include lab director Michael Veri, former town council president Suzanne Cienki and former state Rep. Robert Lancia — who lost his bid for re-election in 2018.
The Providence Journal reports that real estate investor Rebecca Schiff is also running, with support from Cranston Mayor Allan Fung.
The GOP makes up only 12 percent of the electorate in Rhode Island. It currently holds no seats in Congress, no statewide offices and only 14 seats in the state Legislature’s 113 total seats.
