The Rhode Island Senate Judiciary Committee is set to take up the highly contentious abortion bill Tuesday.

“A vote is scheduled Tuesday on a revised version of the bill,” Senate spokesman Greg Pare told NBC 10.
In May, the same committee shot down the Senate’s version of the bill 5-4 and held the House version for further study.
The measure was previously passed by the full House.
That version of the bill, which has been amended, will be up for vote.
If passed, the legislation still will have to go to the full Senate and then back through the House.
Advocates of the measure argue that the bill protects abortion rights guaranteed under Roe vs. Wade, while opponents argue the bill in its original version allowed for late-term abortions.
