Rhode Island beat visiting VCU 71-65 on Jan. 23, and VCU beat visiting Rhode Island 76-42 on Feb. 19. Because of its double bye, VCU’s last game was its regular-season finale, a 75-63 win over Saint Joseph’s last Friday.
Rhode Island beat La Salle 76-57 in A-10 tournament second-round play on Thursday, led by Cyril Langevine’s 25 points and 12 rebounds.
VCU held Rhode Island to 30.2 percent shooting in its win in February, Rhode Island’s third-lowest mark of the season. VCU is aiming for its second A-10 title and its ninth conference tournament title overall.
