Police have arrested a suspect in connection with the disappearance of a former Hawaii woman whose body was found in Washington state’s Columbia River.

That’s according to the victim’s family members.

An angler discovered the body of 34-year-old Brandy Ebanez on Tuesday.

Ebanez, a mother of two, grew up in Pahala and left Hawaii for Washington in 2013.

Her older sister, Breeann Ebanez, said they hadn’t heard from her in two weeks. She also said police believe her sister was the victim of domestic violence. “I don’t think anybody should have to go through this, especially that she leaves two young kids behind,” Breeann Ebanez said.

Friends and family remembered Brandy Ebanez for her kind and loving nature.

“Brandy has a heart of gold. She is loved … We work in the medical field and everybody loved her,” friend Melrae Smith said.

Ebanez’s friends are encouraging anyone who experiences domestic violence to seek help.

Meanwhile, police continue to investigate what lead up to Ebanez’s death.
